About BCD

The Beaufort Soil & Water Conservation District is a sub-unit of state government responsible for the implementation of conservation programs in Beaufort County. It works in partnership with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), SC Department of Natural Resources, and Beaufort County. District board meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 4pm. The public is welcome to attend.

State Agencies

NRCS, Natural Resources Conservation Service  (Division of USDA)  USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service provides technical assistance to landowners in each county of South Carolina.  In each Soil & Water Conservation District, NRCS staff assist landowners with conservation planning, soil erosion control practices, and soil surveys and maps.  They also assist landowners with Federal cost-share programs such as Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP), Farmland Protection Program (FPP), Wetland Reserve Program (WPP), and Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP).

SC DNR , South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Conservation Districts, under the Division of Land, Water & Conservation, provides assistance to conservation districts throughout the state.  SCDNR personnel assist with educational as well as technical projects as prioritized by District Commissioners for each individual district.  SCDNR offers educational workshops such as the Carolina Coastal Adventure (grades 9 & 10 in fall) and the Governor’s Institute on Natural Resources (grades 11 & 12 in June).
