“We will be Good Stewards of our Natural Resources by Protecting and Monitoring Water Quality” |
|
In support of the Together for Beaufort’s goal to improve water quality, the Beaufort Conservation District organized a committee made up of federal, state, county, municipalities, and conservation organizations working in Beaufort County. These professionals meet at least quarterly to share information, discuss problems, and introduce new practices and success from their jobs.
In 2007 the committee began analyzing the 1997 Blueprint for Clean Water Task Force Report. After reviewing the original 50 + parameters, the committee came up with The Next 10 Steps for the Blueprint for Clean Water which outlines the steps that need to be accomplished to continue improving our surrounding waters. The group has also developed a list of 9 Action Items that has been used to implement The Next 10 Steps.

Beaufort Conservation District and USDA-NRCS are partnering with Lowcountry Council of Governments, SC Department of Health & Environmental Control, and several other agencies to improve the fecal coliform bacterial levels in the impaired Okatie River. The District is assisting horse and farm animal landowners within the watershed to help improve pastures and manage manure that will help decrease runoff of bacteria within the watershed. |
